Quilters meet on Tuesdays at 9:00 a.m.

The Quilters met the first time April 1, 2008. We began this group at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church as did many other groups of women in the United States, because there was a need. Lutheran women have been making quilts to give to Lutheran World Relief since the 1940’s. These quilts are given to refugees around the world. The first year our group donated 80 quilts to Lutheran World Relief, The second year we donated 100 quilts to Lutheran World Relief. As the group has grown so has the quantity that has been made and where they are going. The next year we saw that there was also a local need and we divided our quilts to meet that need. Since 2012 we have focused almost exclusively on the local needs.

We learned that fire  and police departments give quilts to affected families, for warmth and comfort. We then began looking around at other charities in the area. We also looked at our own congregation. We started giving our hand made quilts on special occasions such as graduating seniors and baptismals.  We, also, host a "Tie a Knot, Say a Prayer" Quilt event for congregates that have a serious illness or accident.

The main recipients are the Shriners, The Scottish Rite, Tyler Police, Tyler Fire Fighters and CASA.
