OSLC maintains one of two NALC Disaster Relief Warehouses in Texas. Our Warehouse responds to natural disasters

over a large area of the south.

2025

OSLC maintains one of the two NALC Disaster Relief Warehouses in Texas. We are part of the NALC network of warehouses throughout the United States. This year the NALC Disaster Response network has responded and supported our NALC congregation’s response to wildfires in Maui, and Texas; Hurricane Idalia in Perry Florida; Tornadoes in Tennessee, Ohio, Nebraska, Iowa, Oklahoma, Indiana, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Florida, Texas, and Wisconsin; and devastating flooding in Texas. Our Warehouse responds to natural disasters over a large area of the south. The year 2025 has seen the Tyler Warehouse respond exclusively to multiple disaster sites in Texas, including the flooding in Kerrville, Burnet, and Llano.

In between each of these relief missions we have worked hard to restock our warehouse. Often this involves restocking trips to or from other NALC warehouses. This year we even received a restocking trailer load from a NALC warehouse in Minnesota.

It is also important we do not overlook the NALC’s work after disasters have occurred. The NALC sends Mission Groups to disaster sites to help clean-up and rebuild homes. In the Hill Country a lot of fencing materials were also provided to ranchers after the destruction. There are already NALC Mission groups scheduling through 2026 to the Hill Country to continue to rebuild homes and provide spiritual support. I would encourage you to consider volunteering for one of these groups. We can put together a group from our church, or just 1, 2, or 3 individuals could be joined with another NALC group already scheduled. Contact me if you would like information on how to get involved. The NALC will make arrangements, and our Disaster Response fund can provide some financial support for your trip.

We are so blessed to have tremendous support from our congregation to make all this happen. We have always had a good number of members volunteering whenever we needed to load or unload a truck, drive a truck to a disaster site, or turn out for our emergency relief kit builds. A very big thank you goes out to all of you who always turn out to support this important ministry and especially to the Quilters who supply quilts and regularly assist with every aspect of this ministry. We are also very appreciative of the Social Ministry Committee’s financial support. We receive financial offerings from other congregations, but our congregations’ financial support is very important. We would especially like to send out special thanks to Jeff and Susan Buntz, Jerry Redmond, and Ken Pontious who have all driven trucks to and from disaster sites. None of this could happen without your support!

2024

2024 was a very busy year for OSLC, with multiple disasters, including hurricane Helene, which is one of the most devastating natural disasters in decades. This area of North Carolina, which does not normally experience serious flooding, saw unprecedented rainfall and catastrophic flooding. Thousands experienced devastating flooding without flood insurance.

The NALC sent 24 truckloads of emergency supplies to 24 counties and sent 4 mission teams to the area to help rebuild homes.

In 2024 our warehouse sent truck loads of disaster relief supplies to:
The Texas Panhandle fires,
Tornadoes in Arkansas,
Hurricane Milton in Florida, and
Hurricane Helene in North Carolina.

In between each of these relief missions we have worked hard to restock our warehouse. Often this involves restocking trips to the Rosenberg, TX warehouse near Houston.

In addition, our youth group and others held a Health Kit build and in November and we held a Clean-up Bucket build.

We are so blessed to have tremendous support from our congregation to make all this happen. We have always had a good number of members volunteering whenever we needed to load or unload a truck, drive a truck to a disaster site, or turn out for our emergency relief kit builds.
